Autmn Repose on Etsy

Just put this artwork on Etsy. This is titled Autumn Repose and it stars one of my favorite models Robin. Great model and a really neat person, she posed for this at the Wave land Historic site out on Nicholasville Rd. It's a great place to walk around. Any way, I'm building up my Etsy store it's there if anyone wants to see more about it. Click here to see more about this paintng

New drawing

I'm still working on the painting I posted July 20 and 23rd, but I took a small break and worked on the drawing for my next painting. I'm doing this for a group show at Christ Church Cathedral downtown on market Street. I think it's for the... August Gallery Hop. I've sold three pieces down there, so It's been pretty good to me. Well, that's if you count the piece the church bought, I was very honored by that. It's in their permanent possession. Anywhoo, when I finish this other painting, I'll use this drawing for the next painting. Oh, and this was modeled by me wife Malissa. She's also a good model. I can't leave out Robin, Brianna, Britney, Chiranthani. These people have all been very good in helping me make this thing I call an Art career kind of work.

Search for Meaning

I just put this painting back on Etsy. I've had it out of rotation for a while, but now it's back! Search for meaning is the title, hope everyone likes it. The scene was set near the Anglin Falls as is many of my paintings.

My Artist friends

I was going to post something about my art tonight, but I've been working on this new website thing with guidance from my wife, and this is a slow painful process, How do people do this for a living? I did work on my painting some, but not enough to blog about. Instead, I chose to go on aboot a friend of mine, who is an awesome model and Photographer. The picture above is one of the many paintings I have done with her as well as the painting that I'm currently working on (see last post). If anyone wants any portraits of themselves or their high school seniors, my friend, Brianna Contrell, likes photographing her subjects with a more interesting, non-studio approach. She did some pics of me and Malissa a few years ago for our anniversary around town and they were great. She's great about the poses, I never tell her what to do when she models for me, she just knows how to do it and she gives her subjects good direction as you can see on her Facebook page. In the next week or two I'll talk aboot another Artist friend of mine. I can't always talk aboot myself. What an ego manic I've been! Sheesh! Check out her work herehttp://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=332334456821416&set=a.332334346821427.86238.123329964388534&type=3&theater

New work

Adding to the mysterious by being very oblivious, here is an update on this painting. I wanted to paint more on it this weekend, but it hasn't worked out. We are looking for a new place to live, while still working on our old place. We tiled a floor today, checked out a few places. We are taking care of our five cats and one fish, and now we took in a new cat that was starving and almost dead. We're feeding him and trying to exercise him to in order to build muscles. With all that though, today I'm still working on the new website, doing this page and later working on me blog. I also updated some pictures I have taken of some paintings, but the pictures weren't so hot. It's hard to get them just right. And just for the record, we worked in a cat clinic yesterday, helping to fix stray cats. It's a trap/neuter/ release thing.  It saves lots of lives and saves money too. Usually I just talk about my art and not so much about my life, but I'm in that kind of mood tonight. Maybe it's fun to read, I hope so. Everyone take care and have fun! Oh and I forgot, if anyone missed it, I've reopened my Etsy store. If you are out there, favorite my store if you would, it will make me look like a big shot. If if you like something, feel free to buy it and I will be a big shot. Thanks!http://www.etsy.com/shop/cliffsart?ref=seller_infohttp://www.etsy.com/shop/cliffsart?ref=seller_info

New work

Coming along on this one. Sometimes I paint the figure first (even though that's not considered proper technique), and sometimes the landscape. There is a bunch of Green Tree Gibberish on her left and I wanted to address that problem before I went ahead. I like to do the hardest parts first normally. I didn't paint tonight though, instead I'm working on a new website. I know NOTHING about this, but my wife, who works in Software, has been kind enough to hold my hand through most of it. Good to have her help

New drawing

Here is the new drawing that I did for my new painting. Actually, I started the painting tonight, but no pics yet. I really liked the playful way the model reaches up and touches a rock( it's invisible here, but I promise you it's there). I decided to even leave in her tennis shoes. I'll play them up more  in the painting. I guess you can tell I drew this too big for my sketch book and I had to add some paper. It's a common practice for me, once I drew a five foot plus drawing of a naked model in my drawing class and I originally meant for the drawing to not exceed the 18x24 inch paper I was working on. Lots of tape. I guess tape really can fix everything. Y'all take care and have fun!

Under Yahoo Arch

Just wanted to show the finished version of "Under Yahoo Arch". I hope everyone saw the new video I made in the last post. I may do one also on this painting. It's a small one. My next one will be bigger, I need to give the small stuff a break. But this piece is now on Etsy if anyone wants to look at it. Take care and have fun!http://www.etsy.com/listing/104422105/acrylic-painting-titled-aftermath

Under Yahoo arch

Still working on this one but getting close. I going to title it,"Under Yahoo Arch". Maybe not a magical name, but it does tall of where this is. I want to remain true to the Kentucky aspect of my paintings. Not all paintings are named after places, but it seems right for this one, even though you can't see the top of the arch. Should be done and on Etsy soon.

New stuff

More work on the new piece. Like the other one, you can see the progression. The drawing, the image I printed after scanning the drawing (so I could shrink it down), the traced part of it and the drawing on the painting surface. It took me years to get this method down, but it's one I really like. You can also see Toby in the background.

To be named, and still not finished

Here are some picture of my next small piece. I haven't titled it yet, but these are really fun. The last photo may look done, but it's not yet. I have dome some work from this perspective, but not many, so it's a little different. Hope everyone likes these.

New Drawing

This is the drawing for my next painting. She will be looking up at cliffs. I didn't draw the walking stick that is in her hand but you will see it in the painting. With the smaller pieces I get done with them faster so I'm keeping my drawing skills up. It's good exercise. It's good for the brain.

Legacy of the Woods

This piece is done, it is called, "Legacy of the Woods". A small 5 x 7 inch piece. I think I like that the small size forces me to not work so much on the details (fingers, toes and exact likeness and stuff) and more on the atmosphere of the environment the figure inhabits. It has a rather haunting and ghostly feel, which I always like.  It's kind of funny, because since I'm not so worried about details, going smaller has made me loosen up a bit. Usually going smaller has the opposite effect. It's kind of nice to get back into my acrylics too.
