Frame time!

Time for Frame building! Actually this picture is a few days old, so the frame building time has come and gone. Actually, this is for my piece that will be in this year's "Glories of the Garden" show at the UK Arboretum. This wood is Cedar with Black Cherry stain.

Above the River

I think I'm done with this one. The arm needed some work, it was too short. For some reason I can't always see my mistakes in black and white drawings. But anyway, here is the finished piece.

New Drawing

A new drawing for a new painting. This one will be really good. The composition is just begging to be painted. I'll probably start on this next week.

That portrtait I was working on

I haven't' worked on this one in a while but I'm about to start again. I took a pic, I have a little more done since the last time I posted on it. I didn't capture it very well, the colors are a little off, but you can see where I'm at basically. I did some work on her ear ring and added some branches in the back. I may add more...we'll see. Take care and have fun! Please ignore the hazy blue around the tree to the right, it was bad photography and not bad painting.

Venus? No, not really.

Alright, this may look brutal, but her arm was too short and slightly at the wrong angle. The hand is way off. One of my pet peeves is that I can't always see the flaws in my drawings even though I look for them..hard! Color helps me see for some reason. I've been told to look in a mirror to catch flaws, but it just looks like a backwards drawing to me. So this is not my version of a Venus painting or anything like that. I feel like once the arm is straightened out (a funny word play since the arm is a little too bent)) things will really take shape. This is at the Tom Dorman Nature Sanctuary in Garrard County by the way, a very nice place to hike if you ever want. Just Google it, you'll get the directions. About 40 minutes South of Lexington off 27. everyone take care and have fun!

New Painting

Hi everyone! At the top is my first pass at this. I put up some tape to make me some trees. he back ground took several passes of White and White/Green paint. I was trying to make it really bright. The image of Robin came out pretty good.At the bottom, you can see the tape is removed and I'm starting to fill in the trees a little. There are going to be lots of dead leaves on the ground, that will be some work. But then again, this is the good kind of work so it's ok.

New Drawing

A new drawing for a new pairing. I finished the one with the Stream, but I don't have a good photo of it yet. Not finished with the portrait but getting there. I have to get a photo of it too. It's been raining the last few days and bad for taking photos of my paintings. Outdoor light is the best. But I can't fiddle with just one painting long, so here is the drawing for the next one.

Streams! Ok, just one :)

Here is the beginnings of a stream painting I've been working on while working on the portrait. This is a stream at Shaker town. It's a stream over by the bird blind. Usually it's dry but in November it rained a lot and me and Malissa climbed down to it and took some pics. The is a large wooden deck/overlook there, but we climbed down from there. There were some Vultures hanging around but not in this photo. I may paint them one day. The bottom pic is from one session after the first pic.

New Painting

Still working on this but I feel good about it. I want to make this a great portrait, one I can put in that competition at the America Portrait Society. I have til March so I want to leave no stone unturned. I've already stared on my next one whilest I put the teaks in on this one. I'm very happy with the hair. The skin is a little harder, I should have found a way to photo some more shadows. It was a VERY sunny day when I took this photo. That's ok though, I like where it's at and a few tweaks should really help.

Casey Baugh!

Casey Baugh is probably my favorite current Painter. I saw this painting on the American Portrait Society website and all I can say is Wow. Positively, absolutely Wow! http://caseybaughfineart.com/composing_page.htm

Cartoons for Arrested Development

I took a few days off during the holidays so I thought I'd post yet another art work from the CliffsArt saga. I was trying to save one of the greatest comedies ever, Arrested Development, when a lot fans began a writing campaign. I thought I'd add a personal touch with the cartoony depiction of the various characters from the show. Here I have Dr. Tobias Funke, played by David Cross. He was a loser in every way, but very funny. He's is only one of two "Never Nudes" ever to be on TV. Never Nudes could never be nude, not even in the shower. Usually they always wore blue jean cut-offs just in case they lost the rest of their clothing. The other one was Ned Flanders. A Simpsons homage to Arrested Development.

Next- Let's tryin another paintng.

To make a long story short, the other painting was driving me crazy so I decided to take a break and work on this one. I saw lots of potential for a really good portrait in this one so I was excited to jump on it. You can see here I'm working closely with my original drawing to get the likeness in the painting. I'm working with Color Pencil along with Acrylics. I find that works the best. Hope everyone had a Good Christmas and a Happy New Year!
