Photo Therapy

Here is the drawing for the next painting. With my current computer woes, my scanner and printer are out of action. The actual drawing is aboot 9 inches tall, but for my chosen canvas I needed to reduce the size to be much smaller, so I took a picture with my camera and had Jimmy at work to shrink it down and print it for me. I build frames and frame art work and Jimmy does the Photo Therapy side of things. They touch up and print family photos and things of that nature and sometimes we frame them. Jimmy, Jeanna, Hilary and Kathy do good work there. I glad Jimmy could help me. Now to make this a painting for the ages!

Sorry I've been gone.

I'm calling this one close enough to done. There's still a few things to do though. This is a scene at Sally Brown nature Preserve and we had to get in the mud to get it. usually the waterfall behind her is dry, but we got lucky after some recent rains. I'm still dealing with some computer problems, that's why I've been gone so long. Things are getting better, so hopefully I'll have some other stuff this week. Everyone take care!

Please stand(or sit) by

Sorry folks, I've got some computer problems and haven't been able to post anything in a while. I can get on the inter-webs but I can't get to any files where all the pics of my art are. Or iTunes, Paint shop Pro or anything else. Malissa is working on it, but hasn't got to resolve the problems. She thinks it has something to do with a bad anti virus update we had. She Googled it and read other people were having problems with it too. Hopefully it will be good soon. The painting is finished, I just finished it actually. I have a few drawings to chose from for my next painting and I plan another video soon. I've mentioned a few times I work at South Hill Gallery framing and frame building. I'm really looking forward to framing this new piece, I'll just be glad when everyone can see it. Oh, and it goes without saying, prayers and good thoughts to those in Oklahoma and I also hope we are done with that bad weather bushiness for this year. Take care and stay safe everyone!

Shamtic Conjuring

When I was taking drawing classes at UK, I was trying to think of what to do with the Figure drawings I did during class. I was still painting planets at that time and wanting to slide over to working with the figure and landscape, but wasn't sure how to make it all work. This was the first step in doing that. These were black and white pencil drawing I did of models and transferred them with tracing papers onto Black matboard. I pulled out the Color Pencils and came up with this. This one really got me going. I still have it, I don't show it anymore. I just decided to keep it, it means a lot to me. Now I try to stay more realistic, but then I wanted to convey meaning. The meaning of God, the Universe, our Spiritual relationships with Nature, the Planet, everything. That was great but I remember hiking many times thinking, "I want to paint this"! Now I do, but it's great to look at the past and see how I got to where I am now.

Cliffsart History

I haven't got any new pics of the current painting, so here is another day in Cliffsart History! I painted this a few years ago at me favorite place, The Anglin Falls. It's totally magical. I think I may have even saw a ghost while hiking at night there once. A ghost or an Owl. Not sure which. Malissa posed for me as the sun was setting. It's one of my most Realistic paintings, really, you couldn't see her face, only a silhouette, so that's how I painted it. It's roughly a two by three foot painting. It sold to a good guy at Good Foods Co-op a few years ago, but it will always be one of my favorites.

Saturday's Show

Here is me at the show in Warsaw the other night.I was trying to figure out before hand whether to tuck or un-tuck a shirt. I hate tucking. Once you tuck, your shirt fights to become un-tucked, and when the shendig is over, and I want to be comfortable and un-tuck, I have this 3/4's really wrinkledy shirt to deal with. If I stop anywhere to eat or something I look 3/4's slobby. Is that anyway to get through life? Malissa noted, "if you wear the tie, you really need to tuck, or it makes you tie look too short", and she's right! I had a good evening, one of my best friends Brandy came, and we hung out with photographer Christa Dickson and Water Colorist John Benzing. We talked aboot Mediums and framing among other things. A good night.

This painting

Here is where I am with the new painting. This is moving pretty fast so hopefully I'll have it finished this week. I have this weird two week period that I can work on a painting before I lose patience and get tired of looking at it. I can put it away and look at it later and really like it, but after aboot 2 weeks of working on anything, I get bored and start thinking aboot the next painting. I guess it keeps me moving.

Back in Warsaw....Kentucky!

I was just going to mention again, if anyone finds themselves in Warsaw KY tomorrow between 5 and 8pm, stop by the Mudlark Pottery Studio, I will be part of an art show there. This piece will be there. And, if you could bring (or drag) a wealthy art collector, that would be very appreciated. Cheers! .

Slip-Sliding!!!

I put in a little more work on this one, I got the waterfall working in the background. When we took this picture it was a little bit on a slip-slide in the mud while slowly walking down hill kind of thing.  Usually this waterfall is dry but recent rains had it running and I knew it would look good in a painting. It took some work, but I think it was worth it to get the shot. There were Wild Flowers everywhere, I have to make sure to get them into the painting. Cheers everyone!

Five hours and what do you get?

I worked on this for aboot five hours tonight. I just had to post this though, it was a lot of work, but I like it. I missed the woods. The stream bed will be the hardest part, the colors and textures are very abstract. You'll see what I mean later. You can tell I like tape.

Sktech

Ok, I've been taking a beating with the fields, they've been kicking the crap out of me. Two paintings I consider not done, I've had to put them aside. Now, I'm going back to the woods where I belong...for now. We did a modeling shoot last week with a good friend, and I got some good material to work from. Here is the first sketch for the first painting. I was tired last night so I didn't paint, but instead kept working on this sketch. Now it's time to get to work.

I'm back!

Alright, I've been out for a bit, but I've been busy. With many things. Last night I was dong a modeling shoot with a good friend of the family and a great model, and photographer. We did a shoot at Sally Brown Nature Preserve, an area I haven't painted yet, so that should be good. Here is the painting I'm currently working with. It's coming along, in fact I've made some changes since this photo, trying to get her colors right to fit in the landscape better. Hopefully I'll wrap this up this week, I've already did a drawing for the next painting.
