Here is the new piece. I haven't added the model, Malissa, yet. You can see where she will go. I feel more comfortable with this one than the last one because the canvas is larger. This is 2 x 3 feet. I've always felt better working bigger, but I've bought these smaller canvases so I feel I need to use them a little. I think this will be one of my more interesting skies. I had today off, so I had a little more time to spend on it, I did most of this today. Once I add the model I think this will fall into place fairly fast. I hope everyone had a good Easter. Take care and have fun!

Eh, needs something more.....
This is not quite how I was hoping this would look, but here is what I have now. I'm starting my other painting and may come back to this one with a fresher view. Sometimes you nail it, sometimes you miss. The good thing about painting is that you can put it away and tackle it another day. Hopefully after the next painting, I will see things in this work better.

Cliff's Art History
There was no Sun today so I couldn't take a pic of my current painting, so here is another from Cliff's Art History. This is "In Search of the Totem". It's roughly 24 by 18 inches of Color Pencil done back in 2007 or so. It almost sold to a church until they found out it was Color Pencil. Then they bought an Acrylic from me instead. That's when I quit doing Color Pencil as much and quit trying to sell this one. It's mine now, and nicely framed in my dining room. Hopefully I can post the new one in a few days when the Sun comes out again. Everyone take care and have fun!

Red Planet
I mentioned of how I painted Planets before deciding to go the John Waterhouse route. Here is my favorite Space painting from that time. It was really cool, but I thought it was something I couldn't do over and over again. Not many variations I could see from this, but I really liked this one. It sold in my student show in 2002. Along with two others from that show, it went to a good home. Memories. It's title is Red Planet and it is 3 x 4 feet in size.

Waterhouse pic
My painting is similar to this one, but it wasn't meant to be...exactly. Malissa chose this pose, I painted it. But, years ago when I decided I was done painting Planets and Outer Space, I really liked the work of John Waterhouse. I was wanting to do something similar to his work, but with more emphasis on the landscape. It's not just the women I paint, but the landscape too. People often comment that they know the place I painted. They often comment that they know who the model is too, which is neat. I know I'm getting both right. When it's all said and done, I want to be know as a Kentucky Painter. That's why I try to get a good likeness on both the Kentucky Landscape as well as these good Kentucky Women.
Here we are
Here is what I have so far. I mostly done I just need a few nips and tucks. I didn't plan it, but it resembles a particular Waterhouse painting. Malissa just pic a great pose. I'll post the Waterhouse if I can find it.

New Drawing
I haven't finished the current drawing, but here is the drawing for the next painting. I think it's going to be really special. Malissa posed for me at Shakertown. It was really cold that day, so I'm glad she did.

Burning!!!!
Here's the first picture of this one. You can see on the left where there are no trees and how it's looks far better on the right with the trees. I just put the trees in tonight. I thought the painting wasn't quit working but the trees pulled it through for me. They're going to be fun to work with. Oh, and it's interesting to note, they burned off this field a few days after Malissa posed for this. They burn off the filed every year to help native plants. It also helps Wildlife. I'm glad we got there before the burn though.

New Drawing
Here's the new drawing for the next painting. Malissa modeled for me at Shakertown on a windy hill. I'll have to work that into the title somehow.

Down in McCeary County
I don't think I ever posted this finished painting. I titled it Down in McCeary County. This is the Yahoo Falls, but I had to change the orientation for the sake of the entry for the American Portrait thing. It's a good size, it 2x3 feet. Can't wait to get a frame on it.

Grasslands
I retitled this Color Pencil piece "Grasslands and did some touch-ups on it. I'm really glad how it came out. It's nice to walk away for a month or so and come back to an artwork. You get to see lots of things you can do to improve it. This is one of the pieces I put into the American Portrait Society contest. Hope it works out.

Friday's Show
Here's some pics from the show Friday night. It was done by the Arts Council of Mercer County done in Harrodsburg. I'm standing by my Color Pencil piece that won third place, but it's hard to see with the glass. You had to be there I guess. Bu there was a good crowd and some really nice people to talk to. We had to travel through heavy snow to get there but it was worth the trip.

Awaiting the Sign
We went to the Show in Harrodsburg tonight and I found out that my Color Pencil piece Awaiting the Sign did win a third place award. Or reward? Not sure but I did get a check. Nice! I took some photos but I'll post those later, I have to take a nap.
