Edge of Night, this is the title of my latest painting. I have done mostly landscape pieces lately with little or no sky, so I decided to tackle a clear sunset again. Something else I haven't done a lot of lately is add a model into a scene she has not posed in. I had Robin here leaning against a tree in one photo, and had this other landscape photo so I put them together in a painting. When I do this it usually doesn't look very good, but I'm happy with this one. I wonder how many people will recognize the Squirrel bed in the painting. I mean to add in more animals at some point, but I haven't liked the way I have done most of them. There is nothing I can explain other than saying usually when animals are put into paintings, it looks forced, or fake. It's like there is no mood in the painting with the animal added, even if it's a good depiction. I don't only see that in my own work, but many others painters too. But there are some that do work, so I'll figure out how to do it one day. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving, and don't forget to work out a little. I will too,
Here is my newest Color Pencil picture. I've been doing nothing but paintings for the last few months, so it was great to return to this medium. I also like to do Color Pencil work that is not fruit of flowers, no offense to those who do that though. Why does Color Pencil artists tends to do those? Well, I have Robin here protecting the stones, but from what I'm not sure. Maybe the stones are actually protecting her, but then the cool title would not work as well. Here is my newest Acrylic work, "On Hallowed Ground". I made it with Halloween in mind. If it doesn't get big enough, there is a skull there by Robin the model. She is by the way, not just a great model, but a great person and a pro. A joy to work with! The landscape is the Tom Dorman Preserve in Garrad County, South of Nicholasville KY. The fog is coming from the Kentucky River. After my next piece, I might try some color pencil again. I'll keep you posted. Everyone have fun!
Hey, I have finished my most recent painting, The Scout II. I meant to post the earlier stages of this painting a couple of days ago, but I finished the painting before I had a chance to so here you go. I looking forward to the fall season, I hope the fall color really kicks in this year. It's seemed last year the was more yellow than red and orange in the trees, so maybe this year those colors will be there and I can have some good modeling sessions. I had fun with this painting, it reminded me of the Scout painting earlier so that explains the name. She keeps on a scouting! Oh, and if anyone would want to comment on any of this, that would be cool, I've been wondering who all has been reading this. Everyone take care and have fun!
Just thought I'd show this painting now that I'm done. I named it Search for Meaning. I thought that would be good. I did a lot of work on the figure and on the light. I am really interested in light so I guess my next piece will also be a ground piece like this. We shall see. Everyone take care and have fun!
